Traditionally Labor Day was a day for parades, rallies, and picnics for labor unions and workers.

In Canada and The United States, Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September.
The first Labor Day was on September 5, 1882 in New York. 10,000 wokers assembled to march for woker's rights.
May 1, 1886 workers took to the streets in the United States in demand of reducing shifts to 8-hour days.
In 1887, Oregeon was the first US state to celebrate Labor Day as a legal holiday in 1887.
In 1894 under President Grover Cleveland, Labor Day was voted to become an official national holiday in a bid to appeal to his constituents. He lost the election that year.
The fashion rule of not wearing white after labor day is symbolic to the uniforms that were worn at that time.
